In these are dark days, with the country seemingly on the brink of civil war and every episode of Newsnight playing out like a Euripidean tragedy; but Beans On Toast is here for you.

The Inevitable Train Wreck is a rallying cry for decency and conscientiousness stretched out over 11 delightful songs that land somewhere between Billy Bragg and Buddy Holly. Accompanied by a full band, the affable folk troubadour’s ear for melody is as sharp as ever as he tries to make sense of his pithily coined ‘Divided Kingdom’. But Beans isn’t trying to be too clever here, and his clarity and brevity make for a refreshing breath of sincerity in – as the wonderful opening track observes – a World Gone Crazy.
