Eight albums in and Beans On Toast has decided to try something different. Don’t be misled by opener 2016, it’s the only track here featuring a guitar. The simple folktronica and lilting brass that accompanies the majority of this record give it an innocent charm, but it’s still unmistakeably Beans On Toast.

The familiar laconic drawl is there as well as his knack for putting a joyful spin on some pretty shitty subject matters (Afternoons In The Sunshine, We Made It To The Waterfall). Of course, if you’re not a fan it can get a bit Chas & Dave at times (Down The Pub) but at others it’s genuinely moving (Beautiful Alice, Nanny Mac). A welcome refresh.
