Founding member Ben Bridwell has put together a new line-up to record the first release in five years from South Carolina outfit Band of Horses. The personnel changes and the changes in Bridwell’s own relationships has clearly had an impact lyrically, as he emotes about the issues he has been facing. Most of this album was written pre-pandemic which has resulted in numerous reminders of life’s journey in normal times. The songs talk about the connections that we once took for granted and the difficulty in sourcing the truth.

Musically there is an expansive room-filling sound of energetic guitars over which the almost ethereal vocal melodies are laid. The sensitive final result treads the fine line between fragile and epic.
