Reliably informed

Released: 10.05.19

For forty years Bad Religion’s main concern has been the state of American politics and that wasn’t going to change on this, their 17th album and first of the Trump era. Musically little has changed either, opener Chaos From Within all breakneck guitars and relentless drumming. There’s more of a vulnerability and even tenderness to Greg Graffin’s gruff vocals on tracks like My Sanity and Lose Your Head where his always informed intelligent lyrics blow away the punk bravado.

Always melodic but very occasionally dull and throwaway such as on the brief Faces Of Grief, the band perhaps sounding their best when they don’t sound like themselves at all; the refreshing big rock riff that is Downfall ensuring their maintained relevance.
