Stephen Oliver discovers the confident and proudly DIY new album from Asylums
Cool Thing Records
Released: 17.07.20
Opening with the swagger of Oasis in their prime, Catalogue Kids sets out the stall for Asylums’ new album. The polish in the sound comes courtesy of producer Steve Albini, yet there is a certain comforting familiarity in songs like Platitudes, as the Seattle sound meets cheeky Britpop charm. Continuing with the arena-filling acoustics is A Perfect Life In A Perfect World, which pitches its catchy chorus upon the listener.
If it wasn’t for the pandemic cancelling this year’s festivals then this would be great to bounce along to in a sun drenched field. Genetic Cabaret is a confident sounding and yet proudly DIY release that puts the indie guitar sound on a higher level.
