Robin Webb reviews the new release from the Ulrika Spacek founder
Duophonic
Released: 29.04.22
Hailing from Stockholm, Ulrika Spacek founder Astrel K releases a debut for the art indie label Duophonic, the spiritual home of Stereolab and friends, it’s an abode he appears to be perfectly housed in. His real name is Rhys Edwards and he’s largely written his Astrel output as a genuine solo affair building up layers of instrumentation, however since moving to Stockholm he has recruited other local musicians adding perspective and strengthening his sound where he felt it was needed.
Tracks like Imperial Phase and Forewardmomentum have a dreamy uniqueness that noticeably sets him apart from his label mates, embracing artful experimentation that’s never overly reliant on its avant gardism, a worthy addition indeed to such an acclaimed house.
