Mark Grainger reviews the new live album from the Arab Strap musician
Kiss My Beard
Released: 25.03.16
Beloved Scottish grump (and one half of Arab Strap) Aidan Moffat returns with a new live album. Where You’re Meant To Be has been released to coincide with a film of the same name, which documents Moffat’s tour of Scotland way back at the start of 2014, and sees the cult singer songwriter effortlessly demonstrating why he’s held in such regard.
At times warm, genial, cynical and impressively sweary, Moffat is on the very finest of forms on the Drumnadrochit Village Hall stage. It’s not a traditional live album mind, as Where You’re Meant To Be actually contains a set full of modern takes on old Scottish folk classics. It’s still a thoroughly engaging curio though, and a worthy addition to Moffat’s discography.
