Preview: Tom Joshua @ Middlesbrough Town Hall (27th June)

Middlesbrough Gigs Association continue their run of intimate Courtroom shows with a rare hometown appearance from singer‑songwriter Tom Joshua on Saturday 27th June. Set in the beautifully restored Town Hall Courtroom, the performance offers a close‑up look at a writer known for melancholic, cello‑lined arrangements and quietly affecting storytelling.

Joshua first broke through with Showers, a debut single that has since passed a million streams, and has continued to build a reputation for understated, harmony‑rich songwriting shaped by his upbringing in the villages around Stockton‑on‑Tees. Tracks such as Undergrowth and Knock On Hollow, produced by Cam Blackwood, underline that approach, pairing soft‑spoken detail with a warmth that has seen him share stages with artists including Bill Ryder‑Jones, Brooke Bentham and Billie Marten.

Very special guests on the night, and another Yorkshire’s finest singer-songwriters is Leeds-based melancholic folkist Sam Airey.

Middlesbrough Gigs Association co-founder Clare Hargan has said, “It’s great to be working with Andy Carr [of The Kids Are Solid Gold] to deliver this project and we are thrilled to have the support of Arts Council England.
