Robin Webb discovers a nuanced album from the Australian artist
Kallista Records
Released 24.04.26
As the title suggests this latest offering from Australia-based singer songwriter Carla dal Forno tells her story when it comes to closeness bordering on more. An ethereal emptiness leaves a wide open universe-sized space for nuance both musically and emotionally for Carla to play in as in the childlike Drip Drop and the simpleness of Off The Beaten Track or to affecting observations of her relationships out of and emerging into being in love. Musically throughout it’s sparse, occasioned with a delightfully comforting kosmische blanket over its frozen landscape hypnotically threaded with breathy understated vocals as in the appropriately titled Under The Covers or the rarified charm of Gave You Up.
Alone With You has a sweet poppy aspect to it reminiscent of introspective 80s electro pop and the album closer aims to reflect mesmerically humming into the cold dark echo.
