Jonathan Coll enjoys a novel and exciting debut album from the Auckland-raised, Peckham-based duo
In Dust We Trust
Released: 09.05.25
Auckland-raised and Peckham-based duo Chaos in the CBD have been mainstays of the electronic scene in the UK for over a decade, having dropped the aptly named Midnight In Peckham back in 2015. Having typically been purveyors of straight-up, no nonsense house music, their debut album A Deeper Life takes their sound in novel and exciting directions. Nowhere is this more experimental sound more evident than in the list of collaborations, with Cenk Esen featuring in the album’s more ambient moments and grime artist Novelist collaborating on the exceptional Maintaining My Place.
All the more impressive is that they’ve expanded their repertoire without sacrificing their original sound. The album stands as an exceptional showcase of the deep house stylings with which they made their name. It’s a debut which has been a long time coming but one which is thoroughly worth the wait.
