Benefits morphing into a two-piece has opened up a whole new sonic palette to their oeuvre; it’s a more nocturnal, and dare I say it, celebratory. Robbie Major’s intricate compositions lend an atmosphere that allows Kingsley Hall’s lyrics tobe more impressionistic. Not that the subject matter has changed drastically -bipartisan betrayal and institutionalised disappointment hang heavy here -but Kingsley is writing in a more articulate and long-form way. Missiles sounds like something off the second half of Bowie’s Low, the post-club atmosphere of Land Of The Tyrants gives the very contemporary lyrics a hauntological sonic context. At nearly an hour long Constant Noise is a world to get lost in but there is a density of feeling and texture that rewards immersion
