Stuck for something to do in the next seven days? We aim to have you covered with an event a day for the next week, all across the region. This time around we have sonic assaults galore, glorious artworks and even a bit of Shakespeare.

Monday 19th October
FILM NT Live: Hamlet @ Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle
An encore performance featuring Sherlock Holmes himself. Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance in the titular role of Shakespeare’s great tragedy has earned him plaudits from far and wide. Vengeance, mad passion and war take centre stage in one of the greatest stories ever told.

Tuesday 20th October
STAGE Donald Robinson Is Not A Stand-Up Comedian @ Northern Stage, Newcastle
The first of two performances (the other is on Wednesday), writer and performer Gary McNair’s acclaimed monologue wrestles with the darker side of stand-up comedy, in this acclaimed coming-of-age production.

Wednesday 21st October
ART & LIT Northern Design Festival @ The Assembly House, Newcastle
Kicking off from Wednesday, and running at The Assembly House in Newcastle until Sunday 25th October, the Northern Design Festival will showcase a plethora of works from graphic design, architecture, furniture, lighting, fashion, fabrics and ceramics. A must for the artist in you.

Thursday 22nd October
COMEDY The Science of Laughter @ The Core, Newcastle
Ever wondered why you find certain things funny? The clever bods at Newcastle’s The Core are taking a look at the science behind the smiles. Working with Newcastle improv group The Suggestibles, Dr Kai Alter from the Institute of Neuroscience and Dr Adam Morton, from the school of history, classics and archaeology will explore what makes us laugh and why.

Friday 23rd October
MUSIC Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes @ The Cluny, Newcastle
Hardcore punk rock royalty, Frank Carter (he of Gallows fame) gets ready to tear the roof off The Cluny, thanks to his band’s fast and furious sonic assaults.

Saturday 24th October
MUSIC Evil Blizzard @ Georgian Theatre & Sound It Out Records, Stockton
Don’t miss two opportunities to see masked psychotics Evil Blizzard in Stockton, as the chaotic group pile into the tiny surrounds of Sound It Out Records for an instore performance at 4pm that is guaranteed to blow your tiny mind. They’ll continue the madness at Georgian Theatre later that night, providing an aural battering of neo prog radge that will have you grinning from ear to ear for days on end.

Sunday 25th October
ART & LIT Margaret Harrison @ mima, Middlesbrough
One of the UK’s most significant artists, Yorkshire-based Margaret Harrison brings her works to Middlesbrough, portraying a feminist, humorous and subversive skill.
