Ultra-prolific and always inventive, Massa Confusa unveil another slice of post-punk electro goodness this month. Superseder is the third digital single to be taken from April’s Guiri EP. Here, Ali Morton explains his thinking behind the track…

“’Supersedure’ is when an old or inferior queen bee is replaced by a younger or more superior queen. The track Superseder extends this idea and is essentially about hierarchy and power struggles. It makes reference to overconsumption, greed and the need for people to take responsibility for their actions.

“It features Jackie Purver from Pit Pony, who also featured on Price and Homograph on the EP, and has worked with me on various Massa Confusa and Five Pence Game projects.

“Part of it was recorded in the UK with bassist Matt O’Brien in our then practice room at First Avenue Studies in Newcastle before I relocated to San Sebastián in 2017 where I finished the track in my bedroom studio. Jackie sent me her vocal parts over the Internet and as with all Massa Confusa mixes to date; my brother Tony Morton produced the final mixdown of the track.

“The video shows parts of the supersedure process taking place in different bee hives. It is a collage of video clips, and ends with a queen bee being attacked and killed. The artwork was made by Matt”.

Superseder is be available on all major platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp and Soundcloud, from 30th November.
