Newcastle’s very own (possibly only) ‘yacht-rock’ band Profumo have announced the release of their next EP, Cosy Catastrophe, on brand new local label Plastic Palace. The EP is scheduled for launch on 10th November (with a celebratory gig on Saturday 11th at Newcastle’s Mining Institute), and we’re delighted to offer up a premiere of their track, Golden Fleece.

The song manages to infuse the odd-pop madness of Wild Beasts within their own skittish indie rock. Jack Bates from the band tells all… “Having been written and recorded in deepest, darkest rural West Northumberland, there’s a heavy Wicker Man vibe all over this track; in fact, I find that you can improve your enjoyment of the song by imagining Britt Ekland dancing naked or a policeman being murdered during the instrumental passages.

“The string arrangements come courtesy of Simon James Clowes (May Days in Barcelona), who tuned into our musical frequency with frightening precision and helped bring our ‘Hi-Fi DIY’ visions to life.

“I cut the ghoulish character and situation in the lyric from whole cloth, but discovered shortly after recording that something very similar was actually happening to somebody I knew – was this mere coincidence or had Profumo stumbled on the Allendale leylines? Perhaps it’s wisest to keep such questions to ourselves…”
