April would have been a month packed with excellent gigs, theatre and comedy shows – many of which we’d have previewed and reviewed. We didn’t want to ignore the contribution these artists (and promoters) make to the region, so we asked some of them to give you a few tips on how you can spend your time in isolation.

Tamsin Daisy Rees is a playwright and PhD student; she is the writer of Cheer Up Slug, which was part of a double bill set to be shown at the Live Theatre in Newcastle and Gala Theatre in Durham in April. Here she offers some tips for staying sane during self isolation.

Call your best mates.

Crack open the window or have a sit in the yard. I’m lucky to live with two brilliant women and a grumpy cat, and to have a shitty yard we can sit and drink coffee and read in.

Go for a walk in Heaton Park. It’s really nice cos all the daffodils and crocuses are up and the birds don’t give a shit about what’s happening.

Text your crush. My mate Rosa pointed out that everyone should tell their crush they fancy them because by the time we come out of social isolation in a couple of months you won’t be embarrassed anymore.

Make terrible jokes and be really, really silly.

Call your grandma.

Stay the fuck at home.

Virtual tinnies with the lads.

Write bad poetry.

Check in with your neighbours.

Do some bad drawings.

Change your bed sheets.

Moisturise.

Give yourself a new haircut.

Get lost in a Twitter hole and then come out of it and then turn your phone off for a few hours.

Try to do the work you’re meant to do.

It’s ok not to be productive.

Drink plenty of water.

Drink plenty of wine.

Use plenty of lube.

Eat your vegetables.

Take your vitamins.

Take it one day at a time.

Music:

Melostme cos she’s mint.

Martha Hill cos she’s mint.

Holly Rees cos she’s mint and she’s my sister.

Telly:

Feel Good on 4OD because I want Mae Martin to be my girlfriend.

Love is Blind on Netflix because I hate Jessica.

The Marvellous Mrs Maisel on Amazon Prime because it’s GORGEOUS and FUN.

Books:

Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams because it is fun and gorgeous and addictive.

Saltwater by Jessica Andrews because it is beautiful and soothing.

Animals by Emma Jane Unsworth because it makes you want to have a big wine.
