After the success of their debut single, Listen up, which won an Amazing Radio listener poll, was added to over 200 Spotify playlists and receiving over 15,000 plays, Moodbay return with their follow up single, Alone. The single is available from all good streaming sites from tomorrow (16th August) but we’re delighted to bring you an exclusive listen to it ahead of its release.

The duo of producer-songwriter Alfie Cattell and vocalist-songwriter Anna Stephens create an electro landscape incorporating a range of genres from R&B to classical, a sound that they describe as ‘moodpop’. This latest offering is most certainly a moody affair as it moves from the haunting melancholy of the verses to the more cinematic, and hope-filled chorus parts. It sounds super fresh and current with a real finesse that comes from its glossy production and demonstration of songcraft.

The pair wrote this latest song to express extreme isolation as Alfie explains, “If we deny feeling lonely, it’s the same as denying hunger – we need human connection to thrive. We’re social animals.”  Anna elaborates on the origins of the song: “We were in the car on the way to Manchester. It was raining heavily, and we were stuck in a traffic jam. Alfie started telling me about a guy he once saw walking along in the middle of a road like the one we were on. He had his hood up and you could just make out his nose and mouth. We started talking about this solitary character and what he must have been going through to decide to walk alone on a motorway like that. We invented a story for him and turned it into our song.”
