Newcastle band, Headclouds are the brainchild of Steven Gordon and is made up of childhood friends Al Charnley (guitar) and Caius Payne Tate (bass), Jonny Lathbury (keys) and Cameron Snow (drums). The band’s aim is to create indie gems like their heroes Wilco, Prefab Sprout and Teenage Fanclub did before them.

The band have a string of releases planned for this year, the latest of which is, I Do Too, a track that features experimental folk act Me Lost Me on backing vocals. We’re delighted to get an exclusive listen as Steven tells us more about their brand new single…

“The track I Do Too stems from myself wanting to write something with a sort of Disney style, something with spell-like qualities. Inspiration wise, at the time of writing I was hammering ‘A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart’ by Bill Ryder Jones. I really like how piano-led that album is at times and wanted to try and replicate that.

The lyrics stemmed from personal experience, where I felt like I had to convince someone that despite their anxious disposition and lack of self worth, they were still the apple of my eye. It centres around the sentiment that the whole universe loves you, and I do too.

The track was recorded with Martin Trollope (Harbourmaster) at the Custom Space in South Shields in summer 2019 and features Jayne Dent (Me Lost Me) on backing vocals, which was totally surreal as she’s a far more talented individual then we can ever wish to be!”
