A soundly-packed 2018 season sees Dance City explode into life with fifteen incredibly diverse shows, the venue more than maintaining a stellar rep for having the biggest programme of ticketed dance outside of our nation’s capital.

With opportunities rife for audiences to engage with emerging talent throughout the season, Zero by Humanhood is a beautiful piece of kinetic art from a Birmingham-based company of two from Birmingham, Julia and Rudi, the rising stars of contemporary dance arrive on Saturday 28th April.

Working collaboratively with local and international mixed field artists from the most nascent of stages of their creative process, Humanhood craft immersive dance productions of the highest quality, collaborating with physicists and curating an open dialogue between science and the arts, deeply integrating bleeding-edge research and provocative theories into their work.

Their efforts have produced a new show in which rich, immersive sound and hypnotic lighting effects align with virtuosic movement as the two dancers entangle on a ritualistic journey, a spiritual trip to a dream-like world of imagination and beauty.

Boasting an amazing physicality and a penchant for using light and dark in an interesting way (this new production features a near four minutes of complete blackout), the young duo weaves their way through a stunning and viscerally physical duet in Zero, a cascade of flowing choreography that transports and mesmerises its audience.

Zero by Humanhood is on at Dance City on Saturday 28th April.
