During this lockdown, a majority of people have behaved quite admirably. Unlike the dystopian virus outbreak films we grew up watching, which sees everyone stepping on each other to look after number one, people have got together during these difficult times to help those most in need. That said, there are always a few bad apples and earlier in May, Sunderland record store and home of the Young Musicians Project (a group for young songwriters aged 12-21, giving them recording, producing and gigging experience) was broken into and equipment that they’d worked really hard to fundraise for was stolen.

The YMP are raising money to replace the equipment so they can provide access to instruments for young musicians who don’t have their own at home and keep offering the sessions for free. One of those helping to do that is Sunderland music venue, Independent who have organised a Facebook Live gig taking place Friday 29th May (7:15-10pm) supporting the Young Musicians Project and are encouraging donations to their crowdfunder.

Performing is Seahams’ charismatic country-folk singer-songwriter This Little Bird, with support from Faye Fantarrow, Ami McGuiness and Lottie Willis. It’s going to be a good night’s entertainment for a really good cause.
