2015 has tested us, Christmas has ruined us and the New Year had us well and truly buggered within the first two weeks. What we all need right now is 1. A hug and 2. Some top class local music to aid the recovery. There’s a whole host of gigs on offer this month, but this one at The Cluny on Sunday 24th January looks considerably tastier because it’s absolutely FREE – so no need to check your bank balance, or lack of…

Post-rock instrumentalists Young Liar have established themselves as a solid regional force, and garnered praise from the reliable bigwigs at BBC 6Music and Drowned in Sound for their heady mix of electronics and loud, euphoric guitars. It’s been a while since the band released anything (their last EP was back in 2013) but the band will likely be looking to show-off some new material come their first gig of the New Year.

The five-piece will be joined by a bunch of rising local talent including experimental duo Ten Sticks, alt. rock super-group The Great Curve and mysterious drone enthusiasts Chlorine, all ready to coax you from that post-festive slumber. Expect an assault of massive, soaring sounds and strange atmospherics projected at high volume to leave you gawping in total awe. Make sure you get down for an early start though, doors are at 4pm and you won’t want to miss out on any of the action. You might not even need that hug after all.

Young Liar, Ten Sticks, The Great Curve and Chlorine play The Cluny, Newcastle on Sunday 24th January.
