Reliably informed

When you’ve received support from as shows as wide reaching as Zane Lowe’s (former) Radio 1 show, C4’s Sunday Brunch and Made in Chelsea (the ultimate trendsetter nowadays) then you know your band are destined for big things. Six piece electro group Young Kato haven’t even released their debut album yet, but it’s already set to be one of the biggest first releases of the year. Due on 3rd May, Don’t Wait Til Tomorrow promised to be a blast of sunshine to welcome in the summer.

But Young Kato aren’t just playing generic sunshine pop. Instead, they’re pushing some boundaries and being a little more observant and dark underneath the happy exterior. If you look around sometimes and think some people are trying to relive their youth (specifically the rather odd times of the early 90s) then Young Kato’s single Children of the Stars, also released on 3rd May, will probably resonate with you. With a melody steeped in the tradition of Australian electro-pop, the song highlights the lyrical theme of impatience, a running theme across the album as a whole, but also emphasises a different songwriting style to their usual output. Basically, if you weren’t convinced by Young Kato before, then Children of the Stars, and their upcoming gig at Think Tank, might well make you change your mind…

Young Kato play at Think Tank, Newcastle on Friday 24th April.
