Reliably informed

Solely described as ‘heavy on the bass, easy on the mind,’ Northumberland five-piece Yakx are hoiking their ecstatic, heavy and wildly peculiar tunes to Newcastle. And when a band boasts a loving family of quadruple string instruments, you listen. As they say, it’s all about that bass.

Fresh from a stint supporting their noisy neighbours Go Go Midgets and MiNUSS at The Cluny in May, Yakx have returned with a headline show at O2 Academy under their belt, pumped with a collection of brilliant tunes with equally as brilliant name tags; ‘Rabbit Diet Whore,’ anyone?

Their energetic, outgoing live performances are a perfect alter-ego to their exclusive genre, listen to ‘Beef’s Ledger’ and you can almost feel yourself being thrown about to euphoric clashes of electric guitar, an uncomforting trickle of Red Stripe and whatnot slithering down the back of your neck. A hardcore collective with such ease of alternating between gentle, peppy vocals and bulky, corpulent riffs is well worth nabbing a ticket for.

Yakx are supported by three bands that are equally as capable of causing an absolute ruckus; Hakara, a post-hardcore four piece, who’s debut EP ‘Fun in Utopia’ is certainly worth checking out, Firths, a mash of incredible metal riffs, fierce drums and mosh-pit worthy vocals, and finally Massa Confusa, a Newcastle outfit churning out electronic post-punk wonders that are guaranteed to add an interesting twist to the line-up. May I suggest a helmet and knee-pads for this one?

Yakx, Hakara, Firths and Massa Confusa play O2 Academy, Newcastle on Friday 21st August 2015.
