With Darlington’s Music Box festival proving a huge success over the last two years and Christmas 2016’s Spiegeltent festivities lighting up the town centre, local promoters and venues have decided to go one better this year, teaming up to bring a collective festive bash. Aptly titled X-Mas Box, the micro-festival will take place on Sunday 17th December. Spearheaded by the mighty David Saunders (Tracks, Butterfly Effect Records, Goy Boy McIlroy) and Fifth Arch Brewery, it looks set to be yet another success for Darlington’s burgeoning cultural scene.

Spread across Avalon and Hash Bar, the event will showcase some of the region’s top electronic and acoustic musicians, with each stage loosely genre themed. Highlights include melodic indie on Avalon’s Winter Wonderland stage from lo-fi folk stalwarts The Broken Broadcast and uplifting gospel meets chain-gang blues of The Dead Seat; over at Avalon’s Retro Yuletide stage the brilliantly named experimentalists Ronald Raygun perform alongside euphoric synth group Twist Helix, glitch-synth trio Shamu and dark piano-led pop from Paul Jeans, aka The Shooting Of. Hash Bar’s Rooftop Grotto will see intimate acoustic, folk and pop performances from Darlo-born soul-pop specialist Eve Conway, the marvellous oddball pop of Ridley Woof and sensitive alt-folk of George Boomsma among many more.

With Christmas film projections, seasonal food and drinks and other surprises in store, we advise digging out your festive jumper!
