Five days after Christmas: you’ve eaten every ounce of chocolate in the vicinity, every room smells like sprout farts and you haven’t had any fresh air for several days. Seriously, it’s time to leave the house.
Thankfully, the canny bods at Stockton’s Ku Bar are coming to your rescue, with a barnstorming gig across two stages on Friday 30th December that will blow your cobwebs clean away. The main gig room features attitude-riddled rockers Idle Violets, the gritty post-punk snarl of Cellar Door and grandiose post-rock septet Abel Raise The Cain, with headline action coming courtesy of North Yorkshire’s finest rabble-rousers Avalanche Party. The band have had quite a year, with celebrated slots at Reading/Leeds and praise for their riotous clamour of garage punk coming from all those in the know.
Over on stage two, headliners Gallery Circus will blast your ears clean off your head with their rowdy blues rock, inimitable electro-Goths The Black Sheep Frederick Dickens supply the drama, while one of our favourite acts of 2016, Casual Threats, will provide a thrillingly visceral set of doom-laden post-punk to kick the night off.
With the line-up staggered throughout the night, there’s ample opportunity to catch all the bands on the bill, in what promises to be a serious contender for one of the best gigs of the year – just in time!
