The power of music is something truly special, having the ability to inspire, touch and help people in so many ways. Opera is one particular music form that has a rich history of this. Art producer Wunderbar joins forces with artist Joshua Sofaer’s redemptive Opera Helps, to make opera even more accessible; by taking it into people’s homes and relating it to people’s personal problems, with a national tour that runs from Wednesday 24th January until Sunday 29th May.

The ambitious project sees people with a problem apply to take part, with those selected then visited by a professional opera singer who delivers an aria just for them. Harnessing the power of opera music to help people, it’s an affirming experience which really affects those involved, leaving an intimate, private space feeling like somewhere even more special afterwards.

The tour starts in Tyne and Wear and takes in Durham, Teesside and Northumberland; the performances last 30 minutes, are completely free, and after the performance, participants are given a suggested ‘opera menu’ and a list of places where they can seek further help with their problem if they wish to. Applications are open now and slots can be applied for online at operahelps.com. It’s a very special opportunity demonstrating the transformative energy of song, and making something utterly beautiful for those involved.

Opera Helps starts on Wednesday 24th February, taking place in homes all over the North East, and slots can be applied for on their website.
