Writers’ Block are once again offering an amazing opportunity to up-and-coming and aspiring writers in the region with their latest 16-month development programme. The organisation are currently looking for writers to participate in the scheme, which will provide one-to-one mentoring and a series of six intensive story development days for the chosen candidates.

The final aim is for the twenty writers to have produced a completed long-form manuscript (that could either be a play, a screenplay a novel or collection of short stories) and, at the end of the 16 months, they’ll be able to pitch their piece to industry gatekeepers at the final event.

“We’re looking for playwrights, novelists, screenwriters. Anyone who wants to produce a brand new long-form narrative work, and wants the opportunity to present that work to a selection of agents in 2016” said Laura Degnan, Writers’ Block director and mentor. “We’re looking for the next Gillian Flynn, Simon Beaufoy or Lee Hall. We know they’re out there and we want to help them.”

“We’ve had a good record with introducing national agents to regional talent” said James Harris, Writers’ Block mentor and workshop leader. “People like Cathryn Summerhayes (William Morris), Sam Greenwood (Curtis Brown) and Camilla Wray (Darley Anderson) have been very impressed with the standard of writers at our events, and all have expressed an interest in coming back. We haven’t scared them off yet!”

This is an amazing opportunity to develop your skills as a writer and also to have your work judged by experts in the industry!

If you are interested please send a seven page writing sample (in the form of a novel, play, screenplay or short story) along with a one page synopsis of the story you would like to develop across the 16 months to Laura Degnan: laura_deganan323@hotmail.co.uk.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 22nd May.
