On 30th July, the second of three work-in-progress presentations that have been developed through the writing programme Write Longer, in association with Alphabetti Theatre, will be premiered. Aim For the Horizon follows Saluting Magpies (released 29th June) and is a work in progress audio play by gobscure and directed by Melanie Rashbrooke.

gobscure is a self-taught writer-performer-artist, with an acclaimed international record and Melanie is a director, producer and dramaturg, as well as the founder and Artistic Director of The Six Twenty – a theatre company who fuse new writing, live music and devised theatre together to make shows that are relevant, social and responsive to the modern world.

Judging by what the description tells us, it’s certain to be a thought provoking piece…

‘on the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave-trade, two lads meet on top of a northern fell, half a life-time on. one fell here then did a runner, the other lived with their guilt. having climbed thru the mist and out and into sunshine, they kiss, laugh, cry and start on a tentative journey towards freedoms’

After the launch, audiences are invited to discuss and ask questions about the production. You can listen to it by heading to the website
