Alex Johnson was one of four vocalists in 1990’s legendary punk rockers The Flying Medallions, but now he’s the main man in Wonk Unit, a band surely destined for similarly legendary status.

Having just released their fifth record, the brilliantly fun and absolutely bonkers Mr Splashy, the band are embarking on a UK tour that will hit Newcastle’s Jumpin’ Jacks on Thursday 16th November.  And when we say hit… we mean it!  Wonk Unit pull no punches in addressing wide ranging issues, from riotous tracks including Awful Jeans and the domestic violence of Bin Him, concocted in a three chord punk fury laced with incredibly infectious melodies. The band have been described as must-sees in the occasionally staid London punk scene, with a poetic vision as well as an anarchic spirit.

Johnson also looks after old-school Mancunian punks Aerial Salad – adding the title of band manager to his eclectic CV, which also includes plasterer by trade as well as occasional author – and they’ll also join the fray in Newcastle. So get pogoing and we’ll see you down the front, yeah?
