Women’s House, an artist-led project, inspired by the iconic feminist installation Womanhouse by Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro, comes to Makaan Art Gallery from 23rd November.

Local artists Padma Rao and Miki Z, have converted a terraced flat into an art space to create a piece that looks to explore diverse women’s identities and expressions. It’s an immersive experience presented in a darkened room where viewers are invited to see the work using small hand-held lights with the hopes that by limiting what can be viewed, those who come to see it will create their own narratives. The artists have also invited local women to make creative responses to feminist issues and those will also be on display.

Miki Z adds “This exhibition is an important starting point in that, it opens the discussion around inter-sectionality.  The uncomfortable, unsaid things that we could only touch upon during the project. Equally, it created a space for dialogues between different women from diverse backgrounds.”

There will be two public viewing days on 23rd and 30th November and other times viewing is by appointment only until 20th Dec. To book a viewing appointment email: projectsangini@gmail.com
