Reliably informed

Told through a series of a bold, challenging and inspiring short plays, Women Warriors is a rare insight into the issues confronted by female veterans.

It’s produced by Workie Ticket Theatre CIC, a female-led theatre company which reflects political and societal issues and gives women a voice. It’s no surprise that with company founder Jo Jo Kirtley at the helm (who was once a talent scout for BBC Writers Room and developed work with the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester and North West Playwrights) there’s an impressive array of female writing talent involved in the production.

Written by Jo Jo Kirtley, Becky Glendenning, Livvi Hannah and Juliana Mensah, the short plays tell the untold stories of women who’ve served in the military and the conflicts they’ve experienced during their rehabilitation into civilian life.

Based on real-life experiences, which were gathered during drama workshops with veterans, the one-off performance at The Exchange in North Shields on Wednesday 9th October explores the themes of PTSD, sexual harassment, social isolation and gender identity through quality writing, moving performances and sharp humour.
