On Saturday 17th January, Stockton’s ARC are hosting an event for the feminist in all of us, as Woman Up! comes to the venue for a special event. Designed to explore the issues of women’s rights and equality, as well as celebrating their achievements and expressing solidarity, the event looks at how ordinary women can help enact positive change.

The movement is based around social media (a platform where women are often abused for expressing their views in front of an audience) and seeks to provide an online space to discuss what it means to be a woman in the 21st Century. On the day, there’ll be a host of guest speakers giving their opinions on the topic, including: No More Page 3 campaigner Lucy Anne Holmes; Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird; creator of Bare Reality Laura Dodsworth; and human rights lawyer and activist Cris McCurley.

Woman Up! Stockton is also featuring a special workshop by AnyBody UK called Occupy Your Body, which looks at women’s bodies and discusses them in terms of media, capitalism, food and family within a lively combination of activism and discussion.

Woman Up! takes place at ARC, Stockton on Saturday 17th January.
