London trio Witching Waves (pictured) bring their lo-fi grubby dream pop to Newcastle’s Head of Steam on Monday 7th December. Unashamedly lovely girl/boy vocals sweep you up but always threaten to dump you in an undercurrent of guitar. It’s sweet but not too clean – a little like if Beat Happening tuned up. Their debut album Fear Of Falling Down was released at the end of 2014 on the aptly named Soft Power records, and is available to stream and download from their Bandcamp.

Brilliant Nottingham duo Rattle are also playing – their absolutely superb hypnotic drums and clever post-punk double-girl vocals are an intriguing mix of unusual and catchy, they’re a unique perfection. They’ve been playing regularly in all the weirdest and best places recently with some great company (Richard Dawson, The Ex, Hey Colossus, Beauty Pageant) and with an EP out on Gringo Records (Hookworms, Erase Errata etc), they’re sure to be a treat live. Local support comes from Baker Island, more lo-fi pop gems with a speciality in soaring synths and gentle vocals.

Witching Waves, Rattle and Baker Island play Head of Steam, Newcastle on Monday 7th December.
