We live in an age where there is so much new music constantly at our fingertips, it leaves it hard for anything to seem really unique, innovative or surprising anymore. It takes something very special to stand out, but the exhilirating sound of Will Pound‘s harmonica teaming with Eddy Jay‘s masterful accordion playing is just that. The dynamic folk music produced by the partnership comes to Sage Gateshead on Thursday 21st January.

Both instruments have a rich history in music, a rustic quality that conjures up vivid images, so when these two immensely talented musicians innovatively melt together what they can produce on harmonica and accordion, it leads to inventive arrangements and a sound like no other. Will Pound is one of the finest harmonica players of his generation, an instrument that causes images of pulsating country music, it’s perfectly matched by Eddy Jay’s materful accordion playing which crafts a subtly grandiose tone as both are given their moment to shine; with two simple instruments sounding like an orchestra of rich, folksy, inspired music.

There’s also support from BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2015 award winners Talisk, whose skilful instrumentals and engaging musical storytelling should prove the perfect warm-up to the evening’s entertainment.
