Following her 2005 Oscar nomination for Walk The Line, Reese Witherspoon makes a major comeback this month in Jean-Marc Vallé’s adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s bestselling memoir Wild, which comes to the Tyneside Cinema from Friday 16th January.

The film serves as a 2 hour illusory patchwork of Cheryl’s 1,100 mile solitary hike across the Pacific Crest Trail following a severe downward spiral in her life.

Together with her backstory and the songs, phrases and poetry she recited whilst walking, expect a luscious visual experience with exquisite shots of America’s longest and most arduous through-trails.

Wild acts as a follow-up to Vallée’s Dallas Buyers Club with Nick Hornby brought in as screenwriter. Whilst it doesn’t share the same grim realism as Dallas Buyers Club it’s said to be just as emotive, dealing with the loneliness and the alienation that travelling alone can impose.

Wild screens at the Tyneside Cinema from Friday 16th January.
