In an age where the refugee crisis is still ongoing and certain governments are becoming increasingly hard-line when it comes to their immigration policies, variations on the phrase ‘send them home’ sometimes seem more prevalent in political discourse. But what would actually happen if our governments did indeed decide to send everyone ‘home’? In their latest work Where We Began, Stand And Be Counted – the UK’s first Theatre Company of Sanctuary – posit that very question.

Against a backdrop of a future blighted by global warming and dictatorships, Where We Began will unravel a deeper exploration of the concept of ‘home’ through the stories of four people sent back to Zimbabwe, Brazil, Ireland and Greece, as well as one who remains in England. All developed from the real experiences of five international policies, through a blend of live music and storytelling the differing threads of the story will come together in a thought-provoking, multilingual exploration of what home really means. Prepare for a boundary-breaking celebration of true personal identity.

Where We Began comes to Stockton’s ARC on Tuesday 18th-Wednesday 19th, Live Theatre, Newcastle on Thursday 20th-Friday 21st and Gala Theatre, Durham on Tuesday 25th-Wednesday 26th September.
