The four alt-electronic and folk acts gear up for a night of pedal and synth abuse
Step down into the dark basement of The Head of Steam on Saturday 18th April, my child, and what will you see? Well, a pretty appealing line-up of innovative and futuristic local music, as it turns out.
Headlining on the night is glorious synth duo What We Call Progress. Previous recordings such as last year’s [redacted] EP saw them treading a fine line between contemporary production a la The xx and a tense eighties mode of songwriting akin to David Sylvian, but their new single Pack of Cards finds them blossoming into full pop bloom. Launching this new single tonight (alongside a headline performance at Endless Window on Friday 24th April), you can safely expect a clutch of finely-honed, precisely-shaped electronic gems.
Performing alongside them are fellow electronic wizards Emilie’s Telegraphic Transmission Device, whose vintage Korg banks have already floated through three albums of surreal pop bliss (with a fourth currently in production) and Worry Party, a solo project making its live debut on the night.
As well as all this, there’s also another chance – if, somehow, you have been foolish enough not to do so yet – to marvel in the modernist folk of Therunningchelsea, whose loose-limbed, poetic songwriting and head-spinning loop pedal abuse marks him out as a singer-songwriter quite unlike any other.
