Reliably informed

To say the national mood has been somewhat disillusioned of late is probably an understatement. The We Shall Overcome movement is just one of many which aims to celebrate the diversity and wealth of talent in the UK’s artistic communities and stand in solidarity with those who have been hit by the politics of austerity. Events are taking place across the country from Friday 2nd until Sunday 4th October, and our fair region has several gigs at which you can voice your support and/or vitriol.

Acoustic sounds and spoken word is the focus at The Little Theatre Club in Middlesbrough on Friday 2nd, with performances from Cattle & Cane’s Joe Hammill, poet Dougie Verrill and historian Lewis Young; Saturday 3rd sees music, poetry and stories at The Queens Head in Rothbury while at Musiclounge in Stockton the line-up features the electro rock of The Colleagues, hip-hop sounds of Consept, the acoustic folk of Joe Chadderton and much more; Jax Bar in Hartlepool are pulling out the ‘old skool bangers’ also on Saturday 3rd, with a night of Detroit techno, Chicago house and European techno; acoustic music is the focus at The Golden Smog in Stockton on Sunday 4th; plus events are also confirmed at The Quakerhouse in Darlington, The Venue in Northallerton, The Sun Inn in Stockton, Caedmon Hall in Gateshead and Nursery Inn in Hartlepool.
