Reliably informed

After a ridiculously successful first session last month, the Head of Steam in Newcastle are bringing another quartet of bands along to their basement venue to party and generally show off what the region has to offer.

Garage-grunge duo WAKE, aka Joseph O’Donnell and Jack Hope, are heading up the bill; known for being one of the most explosive and attention-grabbing bands on the scene at the minute, expect their set to contain deafening levels of riffage and some seriously sick rhythms. Five-piece Kobadelta are just as feral, but their energy is channelled into a blend of psych, grunge and pure heavy rock that’s both heady and invigorating. Elsewhere, Them Things are probably one of the most loved and respected bands across the region, and it’s not difficult to see why when their EP Good Weird is a blast of alt-rock that manages to challenge typical conventions and turn them inside out. Rounding off the bill are four-piece Coquin Migale, whose latest EP FEEL has seen them explode on to the scene in the past three months, across which time they’ve been featured in the NME, lauded by Tom Robinson and played by Huw Stephens. Not bad for a quarter of a year.

WAKE, Kobadelta, Coquin Migale and Them Things all play at The Head of Steam, Newcastle on Friday 20th March.
