If you like your rock gnarly, noisy and experimental then you’ll probably want to get down to The Head of Steam on Friday 5th December. Formed in 2009, Waheela have become renowned for their untamed, improvisational sound that combines elements of hardcore, metal and sampling and also relies on a healthy dose of feedback, translating into a beast of intensely energetic proportions in a live setting. After an appearance at last month’s G.N.A.W alongside other amp destroying acts at The Star and Shadow, Newcastle-based five-piece Waheela will be headlining a night with various local heavy rock talent on display. Joined by the ‘high energy stoner-rock’ of Druganaut, psychedelic-punk rockers Broken Drone and doom-metal duo Lovely Wife, the band will be in good company for what promises to be one ear-ringing gig. The Head of Steam is the perfect venue for this kind of sweat inducing mayhem and all of the bands on the bill will be looking to show off their latest material and make an impact. As if this wasn’t enough incentive to get out the house and venture into town, it’s only £5 on the door. Four great local bands for the price of two pints? Easy decision.
