It’s no real secret that the north east has an overwhelming abundance of young vocal talent emerging. From rap and soul to MCs and screamo, it seems like every possible style of vocal delivery is catered for. Generator, the region’s premier music development agency, has been working with some of these vocalists to develop and harness their talent to help them get to the next level. The VOX Course has seen aspiring producers receive mentoring in songwriting, production and recording skills and the music industry in general, while singers have received over 25 hours of flexible support meeting the needs of their style and commitments.

The culmination of these efforts is what’s set to be a spectacular showcase at Newcastle’s Think Tank, where five of the singers will be paired with producers to show off what their vocal chords have to offer. There’s a variety of styles on offer at the showcase, with quirky songstress Ditte Elly and folk-blues chanteuse Shannon Pearl both on the lineup, alongside Kay Greyson, Nathan Todd and Victoria Muir. They’ll be backed by some of the best producers in the region, including Mark Lowry from Shindig, Oscar Cassidy of Nick Pride & The Pimptones, and acclaimed DJ and funk and soul man Smoove.

If you’re looking for the cream of what the region has to offer, the intimate gig is set to show off the range of talent in the north east and perhaps launch the careers of a few future stars.

The VOX Showcase takes place at Think Tank, Newcastle on Wednesday 16th September.
