Ken Loach has long been one of the most vital voices working in British Cinema (with such classics as The Wind That Shakes the Barley and Kes under his belt). This candid documentary gives a funny, provocative and revealing account of his life and career as he turns eighty and looks back at over fifty years of film making and the future. With a very special screening at Newcastle’s Tyneside Cinema from Friday 3rd until Thursday 9th June, it’s a chance to get excited ahead of the release of his new film I, Daniel Blake.

Featuring interviews his friends and collaborators including Cillian Murphy, Melvyn Bragg, Sheila Hancock and Ricky Tomlinson, the film looks at the career of this this celebrated direcrtor as he prepares to release the film that is set to make another big splash and prove he’s just as vital as ever, the aforementioned I, Daniel Blake. After a hugely successful Cannes Film Festival, the film was the Palme d’Or-winner and raised more awareness of the plight of those forced to use the British welfare system. Ken Loach has long celebrated the working class of Britain, and it’s nice to get a chance to celebrate his great talent in return.
