Hailing from the ever-so-sunny Sunderland, local musician Mattie Vant is bringing his solo project-turned-four piece VANT back to the north east for a homecoming gig at The Cluny 2, as part of DIY Magazine’s NEU Tour. After a previous migration to London to develop their alternative rock ruckus, VANT are on the rise, having been snatched up by Parlophone Records and churning out infectious wonders, such as latest release The Answer. They’re certainly making their mark on the scene with a thunderstorm of punk-laden riffs and brutally honest lyrics to match. Their music is crafted to aid a country that is suffering through tough times.

Accompanying them are soft grunge London quartet The Big Moon. Displaying ultimate girl power with their line-up, their effortless, dreamy vocals on lines like “I wouldn’t change my mind, I’m a sucker for you” feel reminiscent of Rizzo’s melancholic solo in Grease. In other words, amazing. After only being together for a mere year and a bit, they’re already riding upon a tidal wave of acclaimed reviews and attention, while their self-produced single releases are delightfully moody.

Completing the tour are Inheaven, a hazy south east outfit whose sun-soaked tunes cascade you into a gentle ambience before a snarl of “where are your friends?! belts across the post-punk guitar. They own the title of Julian Casablancas’ new favourite band, having earlier signed to his Cult Records label, and their broody, poppy tracks are certainly worth a gander.

VANT, The Big Moon and Inheaven play The Cluny on Saturday 10th October.
