Another lockdown makes things increasingly harder for venues around the region who are already struggling to keep afloat after the devastating effect Covid-19 has had on the arts. One of those venues fighting for their future is the Tyne Theatre and Opera House, Newcastle who are continuing with their #SaveOurTheatres Crowdfunder campaign, which they launched in early October.

The Crowdfunder campaign allows supporters to pledge on rewards in exchange for their donations. The rewards include; Tyne Theatre merchandise, the chance to have your name printed in a special edition theatre programme, an exclusive theatre tour, a VIP experience to a show of your choice and many more. There is also an option to access exclusive higher end rewards including sponsoring a theatre box or even the chance to sponsor and name the Grand Circle bar. The campaign will run until the 26th November 2020.

The Theatre recently confirmed they will be receiving funding from the Government & Arts Council England’s ‘Culture Recovery Fund’, but with the future looking uncertain the theatre and with essential building work needed, the venue is looking to raise £30,000.

Theatre Director, Joanne Johnson has said; ‘We’re still in need of support to help continue with building work that will allow us to improve our customer experience for all events going forward, including work needed to ensure the venue can open in a financially viable way in the face of ongoing restrictions. The support we have received this year has been incredible and we are reminded that we can only continue to exist with the help of our local community. We hope people will see the value in what we offer as a ‘Theatre for everyone’ and can continue to get behind us to help secure the future of the Tyne Theatre as an independent venue.’
