Reliably informed

You’ll likely have seen the name of The Noise & The Naïve in these pages frequently in recent months, and that’s for one very simple reason: they’re great. But beyond their own adventures in garage punk delights, the dynamic duo of Anne and Pauline have also started a side-line in gig promotions with their own Pompous Punk nights.

As you might expect from the name, Pompous Punk is designed as a home for the weird, the wonderful and the ramshackle of the DIY circuit. For Pompous Punk’s second edition (albeit first to go ahead, the first unfortunately having to be cancelled), expect a trio of excellent acts down at The Cumberland Arms on Friday 7th June.

Headliners TV Face have been gaining plaudits for their noisy pop, with Tom Robinson characterising their work as “punchy tracks that make you want to dance.” On the back of a new double A-side single Chemical Imbalance/Jiggly Bopsiwotsit (how many drafts did they go through to settle on that one, you wonder?), the Lancaster band’s post-punk informed sound is sure to make for a fine evening.

Joining them on the night are The Noise & The Naïve themselves, alongside local psych pop exponents Spacehawke. Having suggested that this may sadly be their final show (with main songwriter Ian Cowie focusing on his more abrasive, oblique project Sid Bano), make sure to get down to see them out with a bang.
