Reliably informed

In the last couple of years, there’s been a noticeable surge in prominence of artists working across the broad continuum of electronic music in the north-east, be it through the efforts of Kanada Records and Northern Electric Festival, the ongoing work of Basic House’s label Opal Tapes or the emergence of groups like Transfigure and Shamu. Whether it’s dancefloor production, synth-pop hooks or experimental art you’re looking for, the circuit’s never been busier.

Joining the growing throng now is the new event Northern Exposure, with the first event booked in for The Tyne Bar on Sunday 4th June. As a free Sunday night event, they’re already onto something of a winner, but there’s also some great talent to check out on the evening.

Headlining the event are local production duo Tunnel Club, who having garnered a reputation for their prolific release schedule have now been busy honing their live show. Their most recent single Trope arrived in April to acclaim (including plays from BBC Introducing), and showcased their melodic take on house to stylish effect. Support comes from busy Kanada Records mastermind (and one half of witch-house duo Mausoleums) ako, who solo work dives into the darker, murkier end of IDM to brilliant effect. If you’ve yet to encounter these two artists, here’s the perfect place to check them out.
