Brandishing a fantastically feminine name, Newcastle’s Tough Tits have been concocting an angst-filled, unruly and turbulent tirade of vociferous bangers. Fairly fresh to the North East music scene, the trio were born in December last year, and already tick all the required boxes on the riot grrrl application form: brooding attitude (certainly), incredible style (obviously) and the shabby, rough around the edges approach to creating ditties that go leather-covered hand in hand with their personas (an absolute essential). Yet they possess a glimmer of uniqueness, one hard to place, but one that can be sensed through every synth-smothered screech that escapes from their mouths, and one that can be heard in every aggravated stomp of their scuff-clad Dr Marten boots.

From a mere six months as an outfit, they have already made noticeable waves throughout the region, gaining support slots for the likes of Forever Cult, Jeff Rosenstock and The Intelligence, thus infecting their much needed girl power upon local audiences.

Combining all of their brilliance into a small cassette is a feat for the faint-hearted, yet DIY label Frux Tapes have somehow managed it, and the girls will be hosting a launch party on Thursday 30th June at Newcastle’s Tyne Bar alongside alternative hip-hoppers Ceiling Demons, Durham duo Outside Your House and brilliantly brash four-piece Pale Kids. Support your local girl gang.
