It was only a couple of months ago that Canadian alt comedian Tony Law was traveling around the country presenting audiences with his hilarious show Enter the Tonezone. The news that he’ll be performing a brand new show, Nonsense in Progress, at the first Barnard Castle Comedy Festival in July surely cements him as one of the hardest working comedians out there.

Law is already a three-time Chortle award-winner and a Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee, frequently selling out shows at the Fringe Festival, and he’s appeared on numerous mainstream and cult TV programmes, including 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Have I Got News For You, The Culture Show and Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe. He’s even had his own Radio 4 Extra show in the shape of Tony Law’s Surreal Guide to Surreal Comedy (like a well -known brand of paint, it does exactly what it says on the tin).

Peter Dixon, the festival’s director, said: “I saw Tony at last summer’s Edinburgh Festival and was blown away. His charismatic performance electrifies a room and we’re sure he’ll be a big hit at our first ever comedy festival in Barnard Castle.”

Law’s brand of absurdist humour has made him one of the most exciting and overall endearing performers on the UK comedy circuit. Alongside already-announced performer Alex Horne, he’s sure to bring a touch of class and a good heap of surreal belly laughs to the day-long event.

The Barnard Castle Comedy Festival takes place on Saturday 18th July at The Witham, Barnard Castle. Earlybird tickets for the event are now on sale.
