Reliably informed

A trunk of self-made experimental instruments is the accompaniment of only the most fascinating of musicians, and Thomas Truax is certainly that. There’s a magnificent chance to catch the unique music maker at MIMA on Thursday 21st July, as the master of spellbinding anti folk comes to Middlesbrough.

There’s a unique edge to all Truax does, his music utterly beguiling and fascinating, with instruments that look as though they’ve come from another time and place. There’s a punky influence evident, but a charming subtlety to all he does, which is often dark with a rare earnest energy coursing through. It’s an experimental, Tom Waits-esque vibe, that really makes Truax stand-out as someone who pushes themselves in the best ways. Ably supported by quirky, twisted pop of Ridley Woof, this should be one mightily compelling gig.

Thomas Truax plays MIMA, Middlesbrough on Tursday 21st July.
