Reliably informed

When a company describe themselves as making “post-intellectual-pseudo-spiritual-feminist-comedy-dance”, you’re likely to either run for the hills or flock to the theatre; when it comes to Gracefool Collective (owners of said epithet), I urge you to do the latter.

The four-woman strong collective’s show This Really Is Too Much will be at Northern Stage on Wednesday 26th September and ARC in Stockton on Wednesday 24th October. Attempting to reveal the absurdities of being a modern woman in today’s society (a “three-dimensional, high definition, water-drinking, salad-eating, WO-man” actually), the group have drawn upon their own experiences to explore themes of identity, box ticking and the patriarchy.

This Really Is Too Much is an expert experiment in mish-mashing genres; breaking boundaries across dance and theatre, the show spans everything from spoken word to theatre, contemporary dance to comedy. Tightly choreographed and utterly graceful, it’s also sweary, chaotic and very, very funny.

This show is for anyone who has had to go to considerable lengths in order to be heard; to get the job; to be seen to have everything and made to feel like they didn’t deserve it; to fight tooth and nail just to be seen as an equal. Wickedly clever and wildly entertaining, don’t miss it.
