The new work by Michael Jarvis, Themes And Variations features paintings meditating upon the varied topographies of the built and natural world. Jarvis makes studiesen situ with drawings and photographs, often starting with some basic motifs of trees, tower blocks, cranes, bridges and road markings. The paintings and collages on show present some of these recurrent motifs found in cityscapes. The exhibition runs from Tuesday 7th until Saturday 11th June.

Another series of paintings are exhibited from Tuesday 14th until Saturday 18th June. Eclectic Biscuits is a special summer exhibition by the Thursday art class at The Holy Biscuit and brings together work personal to the group members’ individual experiences. Places & memories are presented through a prism of colour, both drawing on abstract and realistic approaches, all presented through experimental and eclectic techniques.
There’s film on Wednesday 22nd June, as Wim Wenders’ classic film Wings Of Desire gets a screening. Set in contemporary West Berlin before the fall of the Berlin Wall, it is an examination of human and angelic frailty, love, loss and discovery, where two immortal angels, Damiel and Cassiel, wander the city, observing and listening to the thoughts of its inhabitants in this fascinating film.

Rounding out the month, from Tuesday 28th until Thursday 30th June is Fifty Thousand Years And Fifty Million Miles sees Richard Ian Hall explore the visual richness of inscribed symbols associated with the lost Minoan and Mycenaean languages of Linear A and Linear B. Reflecting a desire to protect, the iconography and intrigue of their origins is brought to life. It all makes for a summer of creativity to be started with some real inspiration at The Holy Biscuit.
